in its founding purpose statement, immaculate high school was to provide every child, who so desired, a catholic education. the goal of the school was to cultivate individual moral character traits, possessing a trained mind, a disciplined will and a strong body. families from the danbury area parishes donated funds and other in-kind donations to begin the foundation of our school. the legacy of their efforts, dedication and passion to construct a much needed catholic high school in the heart of danbury continues today. in its constant effort to provide the best education for its students, the administration of immaculate high school applied to the new england association of secondary schools and colleges for admission. the school has been re-evaluated regularly and awarded accreditation since 1968.
most rev. edward m. egan was installed as the third bishop of bridgeport in 1988 and oversaw the regionalization of catholic schools in the diocese of bridgeport. the decade of the 1990’s saw significant change at immaculate high school. the sisters of the order of st. dominic of newburgh, new york, who had played a key role in the founding of the school, closed their convent on the grounds in 1944. to carry on their mission, the building is now being used as a retreat house for teens and adults.
in 2001, the fourth bishop of bridgeport, most. rev. william e. lori, succeeded his eminence, edward cardinal egan, archbishop of new york. embracing the tenets and vision of a renewed call to catholic education for the third millennium, bishop lori began to initiate the president/ principal model of stewardship in the diocesan high schools, a model that continues today.
immaculate high school continues to provide an excellent education preparing students for post secondary and lifelong learning centered in the catholic faith. our fifth bishop of bridgeport, most rev. bishop frank caggiano supports fully the foundational beliefs of our school and welcomed our youth to become actively engaged in a two year synod to assist us with further reflecting on how we can continue to best serve our students and their families.
